Panasonic HC-X1 Troubleshooting: Black Picture

Closed Iris Problem

How To Get Your Picture Back

A few months ago I was shooting video for the Lunar New Year, and had a bunch of fire crackers shooting towards me as I filmed it with my camera. I had to jump out of the way and when I recovered I noticed my screen was black. The display screen was working, so it was on, and the lens cap was off. Was it broken?

I panicked for a minute or 2 before discovering the problem. The problem was my iris was accidentally set to CLOSE, which I didn't even know could happen. This video will show you a few things to do if you get a black screen, so you don't panic like I did.

The other reason that a screen is black but still shows the display screen is because there is not enough light to the camera. This happens often when you are indoors with limited light. Make sure you turned off all your ND filters, have the iris set to open. You should at least see something...if not then turn on high gain.

If you still can't see then you may have another issue. Hopefully it was just a closed iris or not enough light to the camera. Please leave a comment if you've discovered any other problems with or without solutions.
